Tri-nation series: Stirling, Porterfield’s efforts go in vain as Bangladesh beat Ireland by six wickets
Bangladesh will now face West Indies in the final of the tri-nation series on Friday at The Village in Dublin

Paul Stirling‘s 130 and William Porterfield’s 94 went in vain as Bangladesh chased down the 293-run target and beat Ireland by six wickets in the sixth match of the Tri-Nation series at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin on Wednesday.
Batting first, the hosts were 59/2 before the experienced duo of Stirling and Porterfield joined hands. The two then added 174 runs together before the Irish skipper was dismissed by Abu Jayed in the 45th over. The left-hander missed out on what could have been his 12th ODI hundred.
Stirling though managed to notch up a ton as Ireland put up 292 runs on the board after electing to bat against the Mashrafe Mortaza-led Bangladesh unit. For the visitors, Jayed returned with a five-wicket haul as Bangladesh did not let Ireland go past 300.
Bangladesh enjoyed a brisk start as the openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das put up a 117-run stand in 100 balls before the former got out after scoring 57 off 53 balls. Shakib Al Hasan, who batted at number three scored fifty before being retired hurt. Das, meanwhile, was removed by Barry McCarthy after the right-hander, who was also the leading run-getter for Bangladesh in the match, had scored 76 from 67 balls.
While Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper-batsman, fell for 35 and Mosaddek Hossain got out for 14, the duo of Mahmudullah, who scored an unbeaten 35, and Sabbir Rahman helped Bangladesh cross the finish line with seven overs to spare.
This was Bangladesh’s third win from the four matches, with one game being washed-out, and they continue to top the points table. Ireland, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat and remain on the last spot in the points table.
Bangladesh will now face West Indies in the final of the tri-nation series on Friday at The Village in Dublin.
