AB de Villiers has shocked everyone with his immediate retirement from all formats of international cricket on Twitter. He pointed out that that ‘the time is right’ for retiring while he is playing decent cricket, also mentioning how exhausted he is. He has played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is, and has decided to retire on a high after the Test series wins against India and Australia. However, we will see him playing franchise cricket. The entire cricket fraternity congratulated de Villiers on his career and wished him luck for his future.
The biggest entertainer in the last decade has bid goodbye to International cricket…your absence will be felt, AB. Cricket will be poorer. Wish you all the best for your future endeavours. Go well @ABdeVilliers17

De Villiers had a decent IPL season with the bat scoring 480 runs in 12 matches with six half-centuries. He was all over the social media when he took a stunning one-handed catch near the boundary to dismiss Alex Hales. He finished his international career as the No.2 ranked batsman player in the world and remains the second highest run-scorer for South Africa behind Jacques Kallis.
