Riding on fine knocks by Dinesh Karthik (90) and Baba Aparajith (75), Tamil Nadu registered a comprehensive 92-run victory over Goa in a South Zone leg encounter of the Vijay Hazare National One Day Championship at Goa on Friday.
Opting to bat, Tamil Nadu posted a solid 274 for nine and then bundled out Goa for 182 in 43.1 overs here at the District Institute of Education and Training Ground.
Tamil Nadu did not have an ideal start as they lost their three top order batsmen early, to be reeling at 45 for three but Karthik and S Badrinath (24) steadied the boat, putting on a 58-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Thereafter, Aparajith joined hands with Karthik to consolidate the innings further. The duo shared a 120-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take the visitors past 200.
Karthik fell for a well-made 90 off just 87 balls, laced with 10 boundaries, while Aparajith’s knock came off 65 balls, which included seven hits to the fence.
In reply, Goa kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could never looked like challenging Tamil Nadu’s total.
Ravikant Shukla top scored for the hosts with a 69-ball 61, studded with six fours. But none of the other batsmen could give him a good support at the other end.
