After making news post his appearance in India’s opening clash of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 against Pakistan, Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya has confirmed that he will attend the rest of India matches in the tournament. Mallya, who has been declared as an absconder in India following his property fraud scam, was spotted during the high-intensity India-Pakistan clash, grabbing media’s attention. He later took to Twitter to bash the media and confirm that he will cheer the Indian team against Sri Lanka and South Africa as well. READ: Atul Wassan sees the lighter side of the Mallya incident

Mallya wrote on his Twitter profile, “Wide sensational media coverage on my attendance at the IND v PAK match at Edgbaston. I intend to attend all games to cheer the India team.”

Mallya was also reported to be present at the charity ball organised by India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli. Mallya, who is the former owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise RCB, is an avid fan of Kohli and is known to maintain a good relationship with the cricketer. While a source close to CricketNext confirmed Mallya’s presence at the event, the Indian Team is also learnt to have attended it.

However, a BCCI source later confirmed to PTI that Kohli had not invited Mallya.

“Look, Virat or his foundation never invited Mallya at the function. But normally what happens at the charity dinner is that someone who has bought a table is entitled to invite his guests. Similarly, someone who bought a table must have invited him. The Indian team wasn’t comfortable and they maintained a dignified distance from Mallya. Mallya’s presence is one of the reason that team left early. The players were very uncomfortable. It was an unavoidable situation as one couldn’t have possibly asked him to leave.”
