Wasim Jaffer, Amol Muzumdar among 5 cricketers to receive BCCI’s one-time payment benefit

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to grant one-time gratis payment to five domestic stalwarts, four of whom have represented India. While Wasim Jaffer, Sanjay Bangar, Sairaj Bahutule, S Sriram represented India, Amol Muzumdar was part of champion Mumbai team and is the second highest run-getter in the history of Ranji Trophy after Jaffer.
A BCCI official confirmed the news and was quoted saying to Mumbai Mirror: "These players missed out narrowly. The working committee considered their cases and decided to extend the benefit to them."
Indian cricketers who played 50 to 74 Test matches would get Rs 75 lakhs, while those who played in 25-49 Tests would get Rs 60 lakhs. The cricketers who played 10-24 matches would get paid Rs 50 lakhs while those who played between one to nine Test matches would be paid Rs 35 lakh.
Domestic cricketers would get paid Rs 30 lakh for playing more that 100 First-Class games. While those who played 75 to 99 games would be paid Rs 25 lakhs. The cut-off date for retirement was 2003-04.
Jaffer played 31 Test matches and 211 First-Class games. He stands to receive the amount (Rs 60 lakhs) after retiring though. Mazumdar, who played 166 First-Class games, will receive Rs 30 lakhs. Bangar, Bahutule and Sriram will get the amount immediately since they have retired. Bangar played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India. Bahutule got two Test caps and eight ODI appearances while Sriram was part of Indian team for eight ODIs.
Bahutule said he was very happy and grateful to BCCI. He said he had applied directly to the board to consider his case. Sriram said TNCA asked him to apply for the benefit. He said he was thankful to BCCI and TNCA.
BCCI had announced the one-time benefit scheme in 2012 which helped around 160 cricketers. Under the BCCI scheme those who played more than 100 Test matches got Rs 1.5 crores while those who played 75 to 99 Tests were paid Rs 1 crore.
