Watching Harmanpreet gave us confidence: Alyssa Healy
Healy admitted that prior to the match, watching Harmanpreet slam a century gave Australia confidence to perform well against Pakistan.

Alyssa Healy was the joint top-scorer for her side as Australia beat Pakistan by 52 runs in the ICC Women’s World T20 in Guyana on Sunday. Healy scored 48 off 29 deliveries, her innings comprising eight fours and a six, as Australia posted 165 for 5 and bowled Pakistan kept Pakistan to 113 for 8.
Healy admitted that prior to the match, watching Harmanpreet Kaur slam a century gave Australia the confidence to perform well against Pakistan. Against New Zealand, the 29-year-old belted 103 off 51 deliveries to power India to 194/5 as her side walloped New Zealand by 34 runs in the tournament opener. Harmanpreet’s century was the first by an Indian woman in T20Is.
No stranger to Harmanpreet’s exploits, Healy kept wickets when the Indian captain scored a century during last year’s Women’s World Cup to end Australia’s campaign in England. She admitted that Australia were worried as to how the wicket would play out but became assured once they saw Harmanpreet go bonkers. “I think the other night sort of scared us off a little bit,” Healy said after Australia sealed a 52-run win.
“When we played South Africa, we were a bit worried about the conditions we were potentially going to get. But I guess watching the game before us today on the telly and watching Kaur just bomb them into the stands I think gave us a little bit of hope that the wicket was going to be pretty true, and that turned out to be the case. And it looks like a fantastic cricket wicket, and hopefully it will stay that way all four round games.”
The much-awaited India-Australia clash is still a week later, and before that, Australia are wary of Ireland, who as per Healy, have a few match-winners in their ranks.

“Kimmie G has done pretty good things for the Sixers over the last few years,” Healy said of Kimmie Garth, whom she has played with in the Women’s Big Bash League. “She’s definitely one to watch with the ball. She’s a serious T20 bowler and we’ll do our homework and see the areas that we can score, that’s for sure.”
