After putting a brave front in the first Test of the series and yet ending on the losing side, West Indies finally earned their date with success in Test cricket when they beat Pakistan in the third and final Test of the series by five wickets. Though it was just a consolation win which did not change the outcome of the series, it did take some sheen off from Pakistan’s series win and gave a massive boost to West Indies cricket. The win, West Indies’ first away win against a side ranked above them since 2007, could not have come at a better time as the Caribbean cricket was in dire need of it. It was also after 26 years, West Indies beat Pakistan away from home.
The chief architects of this West Indian win were Kraigg Brathwaite, who remained unconquered throughout the match, wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich, who made vital contributions in both the innings, and last but not the least, the West Indian bowlers led by their skipper Jason Holder. Brathwaite carried the bat in the first innings as he remained unbeaten on 142 and helping West Indies secure crucial lead. In the second innings too he remained not out on 60 and along with Dowrich (60 not out) ensured his side got over the line. Dowrich had got a crucial 47 in the first innings too.
Apart from these two players, the West Indian bowling unit too must get the credit of the victory as they fired collectively in the match. While Devendra Bishoo (4), Shannon Gabriel (3) and Alzarri Joseph (2) inflicted the damage on Pakistan in the first innings, skipper Jason Holder’s five-for and Bishoo’s 3 wickets in the second innings kept Pakistan to 208 in the second. Fewest wins as WI captain after 12 Tests
1 – S Chanderpaul/Jason Holder
2 – Carl Hooper/Darren Sammy#PakvWI— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) November 3, 2016
On the brink of defeat, each of the Pakistani players is applauding Shane Dowrich. Classy team led, by a classy captain. #PAKvWI

To stand tall in a team liable to collapse shows real heart. Kraigg Brathwaite with one of the best batting performances of 2016. #PAKvWI

Kraigg Brathwaite is now the first player ever to be unbeaten as opener in both innings of a Test. #PAKvWI

Excellent from West Indies and Kraigg Brathwaite, who batted 704 mins in the match without being dismissed. Not easy to beat Pak in UAE.
