West Indies tailender Miguel Cummins bats 95 minutes for second-longest Test duck ever

The West Indian also holds the record of facing most number of balls for a West Indian without scoring a run.

India bowled out West Indies 222 to secure a 75-run lead in the first innings of the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua on Monday.

While Jason Holder scored 39 as West Indies added 33 runs to their overnight score of 189/8, Miguel Cummins did his bit helping West Indies reduce the margin of the lead. The tailender faced as many as 45 balls and was involved in a 41-run stand with skipper Holder.

Cummins went on to register the second longest duck ever, batting for 95 minutes. Geoff Allott holds the record of longest duck in the longest format of the game, having batted for 101 minutes against South Africa in 1999 in Auckland.

England pacer James Anderson occupies the third spot in this list, having batted for 81 minutes without scoring a run, against Sri Lanka in 2014.

Cummins also topped the list of most balls faced by a West Indian without scoring a run. He surpassed Keith Arthurton, who had faced 40 balls against England in at Lord’s in 2002, before getting dismissed for a duck in Test cricket.

The left-hander, who joined Holder in the middle on the second day after West Indies lost three wickets in space of five runs, was the last man to get out as Ravindra Jadeja disturbed the timber to end the West Indian’s innings.
