Twelve years after Steve and Mark Waugh donned the Baggy Green in the same Test, Shaun and Mitchell Marsh will become the first brothers to represent Australia, when they take on India in the second Test starting tomorrow at the Gabba. Mitchell will be joined by older brother Shaun in the playing XI as the latter replaces Michael Clarke. Speaking to Cricket Australia’s official website, Shaun said, “It’s a great feeling. Me and Mitch have obviously talked about this for a long time. We’re looking forward to it and it’s going to be a lot of fun.” The Marsh brothers will be the seventh pair to represent Australia in the same Test. The first pair was Ned and Dave Gregory in 1877. Charles and Alec Bannerman were the second pair to play in 1879. Walter and George Giffen were the third pair to play in 1892. Albert and Harry Trott were the fourth pair in 1895. Ian and Greg Chappell were the fifth pair, followed by the Waughs. In Test cricket history, Geoff Marsh becomes only the third father to have himself played Test cricket, and one who’s both sons have represented the country in Tests as well. The other two are Lala Amarnath and Walter Hadlee. Amarnath’s two sons — Mohinder and Surinder played Tests for India, whereas, Hadlee’s sons Richard and Dayle have played Tests for New Zealand.
