Ashantha de Mel: A fast bowler who also represented his country in bridge

On May 9, 1959, one of the finest Sri Lankan fast bowlers named Asantha Lakdasa Francis de Mel was born at Colombo. He was the torchbearer of the Sri Lankan attack when the country played its first Test match. He picked up 59 wickets in 17 Test matches at a time when Sri Lanka played few games. Neil Foster: A metallic fast bowler who caved in to injuries

On May 6, 1962, a metallic fast bowler entered this world. Neil Foster is remembered more for his injuries than his cricketing sojourn. A fine cricketing career was curtailed by barrage of injuries so much that once an airport metal detector was set off when Foster, who had metal plates in his body, passed through it.
