Charlotte Edwards, Meg Lanning give insight into atmosphere ahead Women’s Ashes 2015

The England and Australian women's teams share good friendly relations overall.

England and Australia women’s captains, Charlotte Edwards and Meg Lanning respectively, spoke about the team atmosphere and other things pertaining to the Women’s Ashes 2015, which is scheduled to start on July 21, Tuesday at Taunton. As opposed to the men’s tournament, the women’s series will begin with the One-Day Internationals (ODIs), end with the T20Is with the only Test sandwiched in the middle. Another dissimilarity with the men’s Ashes is that the women’s Ashes series rewards the little urn to the team that earns most points across the three formats.

While the men also play limited overs matches, those don’t affect ownership of the urn as the battle for the Ashes is confined only to the Test format. In the women’s series, there are points attached to wins across formats with four points on stake in the Test match and two points per limited overs game. In case of a draw or washout the points will be evenly distributed among the sides.

While the two captains accepted the fact that their teams share good relationships overall, they also promised that the battle on-field will see friendships taken out of the equation as both sides will look to go hard at each other. Both captains expressed their desire to see pitches that allows for lot of runs, so that the series gathers more steam among the public.

This will be the first series that the English women’s team will play after receiving fully professional contracts which has enabled them to train together with increased frequency. Charlotte said she hoped the move will bear fruits in form of good on-field performances.
