Under pressure to win this match — in Headingley — to stay alive in the series, India needed to put up a big score to stand a chance. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly started slowly – seven runs were scored off four overs before seamer Jon Lewis arrived for his second over. Tendulkar, after scoring a couple through the leg side off the first ball, drove a fullish delivery through extra cover, on-drove the next delivery with expert use of his wrists, and played the cut twice to cap off a prolific over for India. Lewis, however, claimed Tendulkar’s wicket later on, and India finished the innings, courtesy of four half centuries by the middle order, at 324 for 6, eventually winning the contest via the Duckworth-Lewis method. Lewis (the bowler) didn’t play international cricket after that.
